GS Memorial Scholarship

Montessori Schools of Massachusetts, as part of its commitment to member schools, has established a scholarship program to promote the training of Montessori teachers. MSM is happy to award up to $5,000 in scholarship to applicants who otherwise would not have the opportunity to take Montessori training. This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant(s) who are entering training and who demonstrates both a commitment to Montessori education and financial need. Applicants must be enrolled in MACTE/AMI approved training program.




Scholarship Details

A completed application form, including Head of School recommendation, must be submitted by March 15, 2025. Applicants will not be considered if paperwork is not received by this date.

Scholarships will be given to students in financial need. Eligibility includes new students, students who are entering their second year of training, and students who are training for a different level. Scholarships can be renewed for students who are in a two-year training program.

This scholarship is awarded to applicants who are currently working at, or will be interning, at a MSM member school. Please check the directory of member schools on our website to confirm that your school qualifies.

Applicants will be notified by May 1, 2025 of the decision.

Personal Statement:

Applicant should submit a statement explaining why a MSM scholarship should be granted. Include in this statement:
a. Why you need the scholarship
b. Why you want to be a Montessori teacher
c. How long you have been in education
d. Why you are taking training now
e. Educational philosophy

Recommendation from your Head of School


This recommendation should include why your Head of School believes you should be considered for this scholarship and what she/he believes are your strengths and will be your contribution to Montessori. Head of School recommendation should be sent directly to Jin Huang -

About Gail Supanich

The Gail Supanich Scholarship is named in honor of Gail Supanich who died in 2011. Gail was an early member of Montessori Schools of Massachusetts, a past president and was highly involved until her death. One of her many initiatives was to ensure that educators interested in taking Montessori training could be supported by MSM.

Gail's life was dedicated to Montessori education. A teacher and later Head of School of Pioneer Valley Montessori School in Springfield, MA, upon her retirement she moved on to be closely involved in a public Montessori program at the Gerena School in Springfield. Gail also served on the Board of Directors of AMS as well as gave workshops at both national conferences and with the travelling symposiums.
